Chocolate Fair in Toulouse

Recently we were walking around a neighborhood known as Place St Georges. There is usually a market there each day. It was Saturday and there were many people milling about, which was not out of the ordinary. As we got closer it was clearly bigger than the usual market. In each booth was a different chocolatier selling their own artisanal chocolates.

It was quite a feast for the eyes and would have been for the stomach if they weren’t so expensive. I think that is why the French are so thin even though they are surrounded by luxurious foods. Seriously 10€ for 2 small pieces of chocolate.

It was interesting to talk to the producers and hear how they develop and make their products. Everyone has some kind of twist on the traditional way chocolate is made. I guess it costs so much because it takes so much time to make. The producers were all local

  1. I parked at St Georges the last time I was in Toulouse but didn’t see a market, that was on a Tuesday so I may have just been unlucky.

  2. it is not everyday, it was a one time only thing, it was interesting though.
