Blog Action Day- Poverty

Blog Action Day is a great site that unites bloggers working toward social justice. This year’s theme is poverty. Throughout the year they sponsor days of action to raise awareness and inspire action. I have been so busy that I have barely had time to keep up with my blog and work. I will leave you with a link to their site. You can see all the projects different bloggers are working on. Check out some of the projects people are working on, some are quite interesting.

  1. saw this post via the front page of blog action day. it’s great that you’re participating. :)

  2. “participating” is a strong word. I meant to but got so busy with work that I just realized today was the big day. Thanks for stopping by, are you doing anything for the day?

  3. Seriously, people, I do not believe that using blogs we can fight something as big as poverty. How on Earth writing about it helps people who starve? Who die because they cannot afford water? Who are scared that the crisis that is upon us will break down their lives?

I just do not understand all that hype – but I do not mind to participate, not in the least. Although I do believe that “writing about poverty” is not the same as “fighting poverty itself”.

And even though I believe that poverty of mind (if I use the terms correctly) is way worse – since this is the only reason there is technical, monetary poverty in the world.

  4. Well when I think of BAD I think of people writing about things they are doing to inspire others to do something, not just writing about, but writing about how to get involved. I live in France and even though my French has greatly improved I don’t look for ways to get involved in political things in French as it is still easier for me in English.

When I looked over the BAD site I saw that there was a group near me working with Heifer international. I also saw one of the names was a British name. If not for BAD I wouldn’t have made the connection and felt comfortable contacting them.

Did I solve the poverty problem? Of course not, but it lets me know who else is doing something and what they are doing and if I can get involved.

In French there is an expression that roughly translates to “to put a tick in your ear” which means to implant an idea that you cannot stop thinking about. You never how how far and wide an impact you will make, it is better to try. *steps off soapbox*

  5. How you think when the economic crisis will end? I wish to make statistics of independent opinions!
