European style: nobody loves it

So why did the Irish reject the Lisbon Treaty?
That’s worthy of a longer response than I can give. I assume it has to do with how prosperous they are right now and they don’t want to become weighted down with bureaucracy. Strange because it was doing terribly before joining the EU, it seems to have greatly benefitted but now they turn their backs on it.
