Serge Gainsbourg vs Whitney Houston
This fact was one of the other things I learned while teaching my students in Le Bataillet. Michel Drucker had both Serge Gainsbourg and Whitney Houston on for a joint interview. Michel Drucker is a known television host who does serious interviews but also cultural happenings. Serge Gainsbourg goes on to say some inappropriate things and Drucker doesn’t translate them accurately. Serge Gainsbourg realized this and said in English what he said in French, to Whitney Houston’s dismay. This is pretty funny, although many of you probably already know about this. This was not censored or cut from the TV show, a pretty big difference between France and the US. Can you imagine something similar happening, to think Janet Jackson’s “wardobe malfunction” generated such outrage.
We will never know. You Tube (or someone) took down the video.
I can’t believe it, I just posted this. I even looked at it yesterday and it worked. Well, if I said pardon my French, it still wouldn’t excuse me from the words I’d have to say. I’ll look for the video elsewhere.
If you go to You Tube and put in Whitney-Serge, you will get a couple videos of it. I did that and saw it there. I think it’s safe to say that Monsieur Gainsbourg was “in the cups”.
