@ Bob, I must have sucker written on my forehead somewhere. Tell me your secret.

@Ken, when we stayed in the Perigord, more country than city, we didn't experience it either. It must be a market tactic in big cities. I guess it works otherwise they would dream up something else to do.

It is amazing how they look at you like YOU are the one who is crazy when you point out that they are breaking the line. But I have to say I don't see that happening much at the market in Saint-Aignan. People here are pretty well behaved.

I have to say that in all my line experiences, I've never encountered that problem. But if I did, like you, I have a few maneuvers of my own.

This post of yours made me smile. I know EXACTLY what you are talking about. It is so rude and they think nothing of it. In fact, the one who manages to circumvent the line is more often than not celebrated rather than berated... look that guy managed it! Did you see that? Clever fellow! There's almost like a mental back patting going on. They are shameless. Still, it is what makes it so much fun. It seems like you've become quite the pro though. Good for you! The whole description of the looks exchanged with the 70 year old lady was hilarious. Enjoyed this post terribly.
