Sustainbility Exhibition

On Sunday we went to some sort of sustainability exhibition in Toulouse at the Parc des Expositions. One of my classmates at the Alliance Française told me about it. He runs an Eco Tourism business in Brazil and was going. He thought we’d be interested.

I did a little research on the internet to find out more. I found a few sites that referenced it but none that really explained what it was going to be. I found a great blog/site detailing lots of “green” things happening in Toulouse, click here. It is called Toulouse Agenda 21, I guess as in 21st century.

As far as the exhibition went, it was okay. It was not really a consumer level conference. It was more builder level. Not a lot of products aimed at people who wanted them for their houses, more for entire buildings. There was a machine that would go on top of a building that took calories from the air and converted them into heat or air conditioning. Interesting but not made for a house and it was really expensive. There was a water purifying system so you could utilize any kind of water but again it was enormous so it wasn’t made for a home. They also had “wells” that were very deep so the water extracted was already hot and didn’t need to be heated because it was stored in insulated water tanks, big of course.

Overall it was interesting but not what I expected. There were too many real estate sales people that had little to do with the “green” theme. I’m not sure I think a modular home qualifies as “green” just because it takes less energy to build. No solar panels, no super insulation, no roof water collection system, what’s so “green” about that? I wanted to see more cutting edge technology, more solutions to pressing problems, more vision, etc. Enfin, I am happy that I stumbled across the site from Toulouse, even if the afternoon was nothing special, I will be visiting that site to see about upcoming events.

Not so similar but good nonetheless

Except for the obvious lack of windows, I’ve always thought a berm house would be really cool.
