Tecktonik still amuses me

Since I am not feeling well today and I don’t feel motivated to write about our last night out as a class, I leave you with this Tecktonik video.

Not so similar but good nonetheless

Well, now I know what that reminds me of. Me! I looked this spastic back in the 70s trying to dance to disco. Who know I was ahead of my time? I think it was me who invented the Tecktonik - it just thirty years to catch on…
    ;)

You should have seen me trying to break dance. Hide the children, people would scatter like we were about to have an air raid drill, alright, everyone under the desks, cover the back of your head, he’s trying to do the robot.

Parachute pants, studded belt, chain hanging down from my wallet, kango hat, I looked so goofy. Wait I think I saw someone dressed like that today. Can you believe the 80’s are back, again, didn’t they come back about 5 years ago. Can’t we suppress them?

If I saw someone stop and start doing what this guy is doing, I would immediately call for the rescue squad. He’s obviously having an epileptic seizure.

I guess it almost looks graceful compared to the dance craze in Philadelphia the last 5 years. The Wu Tang was a very aggressive, violent looking, hyper sexual “dance”. It was danced to B-more club music, I cannot publish the lyrics here they are over the top.

In contrast tecktonik looks fun, amusing, and light hearted. When Philadelphians would Wu Tang as they called it, one would battle another, and people gathered round. It looked like a fight. I was a teacher and we never knew when a real fight broke out or when they were just battling. I guess everything in the US takes on a slightly violent tone.

I can imagine a pseudo West Side Story with this kind of dancing in it. Made by Francois Ozon maybe?

Have you read about the Tektonik dancers being attacked by kids from the housing projects at Place Occitane?

  7. Skeptic Says:

Tecktonik is so commercial. It’s one big marketing venture.

I’m sure you are right. I mean how “underground” can it be when it is all over the news, people dancing it on the sidewalks of big cities not in the ghettoes of those cities, but I don’t really care. It is amusing, I have fun watching it for 10 minutes, I don’t think it is going to last, but I am trying to learn to live in the moment and enjoy this moment.
