Cheap ways to call internationally
Our friends Alessandro and Stefano told us about callingcards.com. You can purchase a calling card online. You don’t actually get a card but you get an email that gives you the access number to call and the pin number so you can call internationally. The rates are excellent. We had a card to call from the US to France before we moved and we paid 1.9 cents per minute. We have one now to call from France to the US and we pay 2.9 cents per minute.
You can buy them in denominations of $10, $20, $50 for sure and probably even higher if you need to. They are great because if you have a cell phone that cannot call internationally or you don’t want to pay the rates your carrier charges, you can use the cards because the access numbers are local. Check them out so you can call us day and night, just don’t forget the time difference.
Hi,
I just stumbledupon
on this page and I have some even better (and cheaper) ways to call US (or anywhere in the world) from France :
http://www.gratostel.com/
This is a portal with a list and direct links to some more cheap calling companies, for most of them you don’t even need a card, you just have to call a specfific phone number. See by yourself
I just took a brief look. That looks really great. The best thing about Stumble Upon is that people randomly find your site but even better is when they tell you about something like this. 1.7 cents a minute is hard to beat but this site looks very promising. Thanks for the heads up.
I have an idea, why doesn’t everyone comment on their preferred way to call internationally. I’ll make a new post of the info if there is enough new info. It could be a great resource for those of us living far from our friends and family.
Well, I think nothing beats french ISP’s like Free, Neuf etc, you have unlimited (!) international calls included in your Internet plan, all for 29.90 euros.
I was amazed at how inexpensive ISP’s were here. It includes your phone, TV with like 50 channels, and DSL. We have a friend who had Free but when he had problems it took ages to resolve because their customer service was terrible. We went with Orange, even though it is a little more expensive, because there are stores all over the place and if you have a problem you can go to the store and resolve it instead of calling it in.
Another tips for those of us in France. If you want to call customer service for Orange you know they charge you .34 per minute. If you call from a fixed phone the waiting time is not charged but if you call from a cell phone it is charged. The great thing about Orange is that if you have a problem you can go to the store instead of using the phone. They will call from the store for you and you don’t get charged. That can make up the difference in price between Orange and cheaper ISP’s, if you have a big problem and need their help to resolve it. So far Orange customer service has been excellent.
