Bad translation of the month

We were at a restaurant in Sarlat last weekend. The Southwest of France has many British people here so menus often have the English translations below the French descriptions of the food. The descriptions tend to be long, but this one was not.

Coq au vin
Cock with wine

There are so many ways to interpret this, where does one begin?

Not so similar but good nonetheless

There was a store that was a pet store that wanted to project that it carried a wide assortment of items. It was called Pet-Pourri, like combining pet and potpourri. This has an unfortunate meaning in French

    Le Pet-Pourri= The Rotten Fart

Not exactly the kind of store you were imagining.

Oh, I’ve had that. Not that there’s anything wrong with it, of course.

    I’ve had it too.
