Going to Toulouse, job interview today
I really don’t need to work for at least a year but since I was offered an interview I thought I’d exercise my Protestant work ethic. That and it would make finding an apartment easier. Apparently in France, if your income comes from overseas, they cannot garnish your wages if necessary, so they like you to have a job in France or put up a big deposit, when renting an apartment just in case. It might be easier to get a job.
Cetradel is a language learning company. I think they work with companies who need language teachers for their employees, maybe one on one and small groups. It is for teaching English part time, I can work part time because I am on a student VISA.
Wish me luck
Good luck! It sounds sort of like ESL, which would make you the third in your family to do that. At the same time it would improve your French.
It’s like ESL, but it is specifically for employees at jobs where they are required to speak English. It is very functional. The company learns what situations they need to speak English in, write objectives for each student, and then the teachers do their magic. This was explained to me in the interview.
I think they were interested in me. Their classes are mostly set this Fall though so if I get an offer it would probably be not until January. I would do it for the experience but the pay is not very good and it is not a lot of hours per week and the preparation time is not compensated.
I make more money doing my Atomic Learning videos, maybe I should just concentrate on that. That and making a little money from this blog.
Hi!
I just moved to France a few months ago and am beginning to grow rather desperate to find a job… reason for which, starting something of my own becomes increasingly attractive. I used to work in Real Estate and would love to further my experience in the field yet at this point, I realize I should perhaps focus my effort on bettering my French. Funny enough, I went to two classes at Alliance Francais… I have only wonderful things to say about the school!
Anyhow, your site looks interesting so I thought I would drop a line. Particularly, I was curious to find out how your interview went… I might take a look at the website myself. Should you have any suggestions you might have come across work-wise for an expat, fire away
Thanks!
Florencia
oops, I just read your most recent post re: Cetradel… hmm… even more open to work suggestions now!
Which Alliance Française did you go to? I really like the one in Toulouse.
My interview went fine, but I was very overqualified for the job. I had been a teacher in the US for 8 years. The job here was teaching English classes a few times a week. I probably could have had a job but they pay was low 17€ and hour and you did not get paid for any prep time and they don’t have a curriculum. This means you teach a few classes maybe 10 hours per week if you are lucky. 170€ a week but then you prepare at least 15 hours during the week and you have to write all your own lessons etc.
Having been a teacher I know the prep is where the real time is spent, at least the good teachers spend their time in the prep. If I was offered something I probably wouldn’t take it. I make more working online and I set my hours.
It would be nice to get paid in Euros as the dollar is such crap now.
