VISA appointment on Tuesday
I have a VISA appointment in DC on Tuesday. I will probably be fine but all the talk about French civil servants is daunting. I have been gathering “papers” since April and think I have everything, that is unless they have changed some requirements, which they do from time to time, and don’t post those changes, in expected spots on their website, the Embassy. Enough rambling about that though. It would appear that asking for updates to VISA policy to be posted in the general VISA info section is asking too much. Or how about any changes to student VISA policy get posted in the Student VISA section. The “gaul” I have to insist on such logical things.
Ok, the learning curve will be steep, but you will eventually know how to navigate French administration.
Rule 1: Do not EVER expect official web sites to contain up-to-date information. Not even the tax office. A friend of mine was recently reprimanded for selecting the wrong status with regard to her taxes. When she explained that she had simply followed the instructions provided on the Tax Department’s web site, they simply looked at her in astonishment and exclaimed that that area of the site had not been updated for two years
I am expecting just that. I am expecting the worst so I can be pleasantly surprised that it might not be as bad as I thought. Jean-Jacques hasn’t lived in France for 20 years so he won’t be of much help either. In fact he will get angrier, faster and be able to curse and threaten.
I have to stop by Campus France before going to the Embassy on Tuesday. An American woman runs the office but their website is so overwhelming. I called her in frustration at trying to fill out the forms and she looked at the site and couldn’t figure it out either. I felt vindicated BUT I still don’t have part of my application filled out because no one knew how. I hope it all goes okay.
