Just when I thought I had it all covered

I re-read the requirements for the VISA. I guess since most people go on a student VISA as a regular university student through and exchange program the info is geared toward them. Ok, I get it, I’m used to being an outsider. But try to get a definitive answer out of someone. Anyone care to comment on what this means?

If your parents are going to pay for your expenses in France : a financial guarantee such as a notarized statement certifying that the applicant will be provided with a monthly allowance of $ 600 for the duration of his/her stay in France, or a proof of personal income along with a letter from school stating that room, board, and tuition are fully prepaid . If the host provides the student with a letter certifying that lodging will be free of charge, and provide a copy of his/her pictured I.D., an allowance of $ 300 will be accepted.

I can prove an income of $2000 per month and no my parents aren’t paying a thing as I’m grown. I simply need to know if I need a letter from our friend Copper, whom we are staying with, saying that his address is my address. Seems like a simple yes or know would do it, mais non! Mon Dieux! Ca c’est envraisenblable(I have no idea how to spell it but I know it when I hear it) Do I need proof of my address, yes or no?

  1. Seems pretty clear to me - if you send a letter from your friend saying he won’t charge you for rent and a copy of his ID card, you’ll only need to show you have $300 per month in order to get the visa.

  2. I don’t need a letter from him to lower my required income per month because I make in excess of that. In fact I make well in excess of the $600 limit. But what do I have to show. According to the Embassy, who did email me this afternoon, since I can show an income of more than $600 I do not need a letter attesting to where I will be living. They gear this toward college students so if you are not really a college student you have to interpret liberally. Which I can do but I am now officially scared of the civil servants. Well, tomorrow is the day, I’ll be glad when my VISA appt is over and I have it in my hand. Then I can start worrying about the title to our car. [/worry]

  3. Well, good luck! Will you still have an income of more than $600 per month while you are over here?

Because I first came over on a student visa too (even though like you I was no longer a student), and I had to show I had $600 in my savings account for every month I’d be here since I wouldn’t have a job once in France.

  4. We have 2 apts that we rent and a small loan we cary when we sold our store. I will have that income in France as well, without engaging in a wage earning activity or however they put it. I asked about if I had to put $in an account but since I will continue having an income I didn’t have to. In theory, that is, I am on my way to my VISA appointment now so Hopefully all will be as they have assured me.

  5. Relax everything will be fine.

  6. Stay tuned for some nasty remarkis about today’s appoitnment.
