Books to read
Alix always inspires us in the ways of the book. We always exchange books and talk about books we’ve read. I used to make lists of books I’d like to read and then lose them and forget all those books I intended to read. Maybe this way there will be a “permanent record” of the books. Books I intend to read “soon”,
- The Undercover Economist
- The Myth of the Rational Voter
- The Historian
I’m also looking for good murder mysteries. I cannot watch another episode of Law and Order, although I can continue to rent The Wire. Seriously, I prefer reading so good gripping crime dramas would fit the bill. Ones I’ve liked that I read recently, not that they were recently published or anything,
- The Seville Communion
- Firewall
- Devil’s Corner
I also read a lot of magazines but I need to stray from non-fiction for a while. What have you been reading or what would you recommend?
If you are tired of non-fiction, then stick to good magazines where competent people review non-fiction books (like those in your first list - have you read them yet?). Many reviews are so good in providing necessary background and summaries, that you don’t have to read the books anymore!
Reviews of fiction we usually don’t trust.
Well I am in the middle of The Historian and I have to say I love it. I tend to be afraid of the hype. When it came out there was so much hype surrounding it that I thought it can’t live up to its hype so I didn’t read it. It was finally given to me and I started to read it and I can’t put it down.
